Part II — Instruction for Those Preparing for Baptism
The Ointment
The Ointment
At this point a Coptic copy of the Didache, made in the fourth or fifth century, has a short thanksgiving that the Greek manuscript does not. It gives thanks over the ointment — the Coptic word means a sweet fragrance — and, like the prayers before it, thanks the Father for what he made known through Jesus and closes by giving him glory forever. This book is made from the Greek, so the prayer is described here rather than printed as part of the manual.
