Old Book of the Martyrs Mirror: 1550s
Karel van Tiegem, in the Year 1559
About the same time a brother named Karel van Tiegem was also arrested at Kortrijck, for the love of God, and for living according to His Word; he was not ashamed to confess Christ his Lord freely before men, and to make a good confession of his faith, in which he also persevered to the end; but however greatly he was tormented, he would not implicate others; so the rulers of this world, seizing an opportunity against him, as Pilate, urged on by the priests to remain Caesar's friend, did against Christ, condemned him to death, and had him burned with fire; therefore they must expect the sentence of eternal fire, which will have no power over him.
