Eigth Century
Is it surprising, then, that we hold it for certain that the seventh century also was not without people who, having made a good confession of faith, had to taste death for it? Certainly we have no reason to doubt it; either the ancients must not have instructed their contemporaries and descendants well, or there must have been no persecutions in this century. As to the first, the very nature of love will lead us to believe otherwise; while the second has already been refuted well enough, since we have shown that various persecutions occurred during that time. We will now close, since our purpose has been explained well enough above; besides, many of the confessors and martyrs recorded for this century will bear testimony to it.
