Ulpian, a Pious Young Man, Cast into the Sea, and Drowned

ULPIAN, A PIOUS YOUNG MAN, CAST INTO THE SEA, AND DROWNED, NEAR THE CITY OF TYRE, FOR THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST, IN THE YEAR

304

About that time, almost in those very days, another youth named Ulpian was brought forth in the city of Tyre. After he had been tormented long and very severely, he was finally sentenced to an unusual death for the testimony of Jesus Christ, namely, to be wrapped stark naked, together with a dog and an adder, in the fresh hide of an ox or cow, and thus thrown into the sea. This sentence was carried out near the city of Tyre; but the sea will give up its dead, and then this pious witness of Jesus Christ and his fellow brothers will be rewarded and crowned by the Lord with the crown of immortality.
