Fuller Account of the Martyrdom and Death of Anthimus

FULLER ACCOUNT OF THE MARTYRDOM AND DEATH OF ANTHIMUS, AS RECORDED BY J. GYSIUS

He writes: "At this time Anthimus, bishop of Nicomedia, was also beheaded, after a glorious confession, together with a great number of the faithful. Nicephorus writes that he was first beaten most cruelly; that they then bored through his heels with burning pins, threw him on potsherds, put red-hot slippers on his feet, tore the skin and flesh from his body, burned him with torches, stoned him, and finally beheaded him." The same way was trodden by Tyrannion, bishop of the church of Tyre, Zenobius of Sidon, Sylvanus of Gaza, and Pamphilius, concerning whom Eusebius wrote a special book." Joh. Gys., folio 23, column 3, from Euseb., book 8, chapter 6. Cyprian., book 7, chapter 6.
