What the Author of the Introduction, and So On, Has Written About This Persecution

In the year 273 the ninth persecution of the Christians arose, under the Emperor Aurelian; but it was not as great as the one before, because death suddenly overtook him just as he was planning to begin it. Under him were killed . . . and many others, about whom no special accounts remain. Folio 41, column 2.

Although Emperor Aurelian could not himself sign the decrees against the Christians mentioned above, the persecution nevertheless went on in some places, so that here and there some laid down their lives for the testimony of Jesus Christ. Of these we shall mention only a few, whom we have selected as true martyrs.
