Account of Those Who Suffered in the Seventeenth Century
Remarks as to What Followed Hereupon
After this second mandate the hoped-for peace followed in the city named above and in its jurisdiction, at least so far that we have learned of no noteworthy disturbance or obstruction of religion.
Meanwhile the mischief broke out again in other places, especially at Deventer, though also from those professing the Calvinistic doctrine; so much so that the authorities of that city, urged on by certain bitter and malicious persons, tried to abolish the gatherings of those professing that belief by a certain edict containing various punishments against the Anabaptists. We will give an account of it at once.
