Isaiah
Isaiah 27
The Lord’s Vineyard
On that day God will bring his holy, great, and strong sword against the dragon—the fleeing serpent, the dragon, the crooked serpent—and he will destroy the dragon.
On that day there will be a beautiful vineyard and a desire to begin a song about it.
I am a strong city, a city under siege. I water it for nothing; it will be taken at night, and by day its wall will fall.
There is none that has not taken hold of her. Who will appoint me to guard stubble in the field? Because of this enemy I set her aside; therefore the Lord God carried out everything he appointed.
I am burned up. Those who live in her will cry, ‘Let us make peace with him; let us make peace.’
Those coming are Jacob’s children. Israel will bud and blossom, and the world will be filled with his fruit.
Was Israel struck as the one who struck him was struck? Was Israel killed as the one who killed him was killed?
He will dismiss them while fighting and reproaching them. Did you not plan to kill them with a harsh, angry spirit?
Therefore Jacob’s lawlessness will be removed. This will be his blessing when I remove his sin: they will crush every altar stone to fine dust, their trees will not remain, and their idols will be cut down like a distant thicket.
The flock living there will be left like an abandoned flock. The land will remain pasture for a long time, and flocks will lie down there to rest.
After a time nothing green will remain because the grass dried up. Come here, you women returning from a sight. These people have no understanding, so their maker will not pity them, and the one who formed them will show no mercy.
On that day the Lord will fence people off from the river channel as far as Rhinocorura. But you, gather Israel’s children one by one.
On that day they will blow the great trumpet. Those lost in Assyria and Egypt will come and bow down to the Lord on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.
