Isaiah
Isaiah 19
The Message against Egypt
“The vision concerning Egypt. Look, the Lord sits on a swift cloud and will come to Egypt. Egypt’s idols will be shaken at his presence, and their hearts will fail within them.”
“Egyptians will rise against Egyptians. Each person will fight his brother and neighbor, city against city and district against district.”
“Egypt’s spirit will be troubled within them, and I will frustrate their counsel. They will consult their gods, images, those who speak from the earth, and those with a divining spirit.”
“I will hand Egypt over to cruel masters, and cruel kings will rule them. This is what the Lord of armies says.”
“The Egyptians will drink the water by the sea, but the river will fail and dry up.”
“Streams and river canals will fail. Every reservoir, reed marsh, and papyrus marsh will dry up.”
“All the green plants around the river and everything sown beside it will be blasted by the wind and dry up.”
“Fishermen will groan. Everyone who casts hooks or nets into the river will mourn.”
“Those who work fine flax and make fine linen will be put to shame.”
“Those who work with them will suffer, and everyone who makes beer will grieve in their souls.”
“Tanis’s rulers will become fools, and the king’s wise counselors will give foolish advice. How can you tell the king, ‘We are sons of wise men, descendants of ancient kings’?’”
“Where are your wise men now? Let them tell you what the Lord of armies has planned for Egypt.”
“Tanis’s rulers failed, and Memphis’s rulers became proud. They will lead Egypt astray tribe by tribe.”
“The Lord prepared a spirit of error for them, and they led Egypt astray in everything it did, like a drunk who staggers and vomits.”
“No work will be left for Egypt, nothing that can make head or tail, beginning or end.”
“On that day the Egyptians will be like women, fearful and trembling because of the hand the Lord of armies brings against them.”
“The land of the Jews will terrify the Egyptians. Whoever mentions it will make them afraid because of what the Lord of armies has planned for it.”
“On that day five cities in Egypt will speak Canaan’s language and swear by the name of the Lord. One city will be called Asedek.”
“On that day there will be an altar to the Lord in Egypt and a pillar to the Lord at its border.”
“It will be a lasting sign to the Lord in Egypt. When they cry to the Lord because of those who afflict them, he will send them a man who will rescue them. He will judge and rescue them.”
“The Lord will become known to the Egyptians, and on that day they will know the Lord. They will offer sacrifices, make vows to the Lord, and fulfill them.”
“The Lord will strike the Egyptians with a great blow and then heal them completely. They will return to the Lord. He will hear and heal them.”
“On that day there will be a road from Egypt to Assyria. Assyrians will enter Egypt, Egyptians will go to Assyria, and Egyptians will serve the Assyrians.”
“On that day Israel will be a third people among Egypt and Assyria, blessed in the land.”
The Lord of armies blessed that land, saying,
“Blessed are my people in Egypt, those among the Assyrians, and Israel my inheritance.”
