Isaiah 13

The Message against Babylon

“The vision Isaiah son of Amoz saw against Babylon.”
“Raise a signal on a level mountain, lift your voice to them, do not fear, signal with your hand, and open the gates, rulers.”
“I give the command, and I bring them. They have been made holy, and I bring them. Giants are coming to fulfill my wrath, rejoicing even as they insult.”
“A sound of many nations on the mountains, like the sound of a great multitude. A sound of kings and nations gathered together. The Lord of armies has commanded a nation trained for war.”
“They come from a distant land, from heaven’s farthest foundation. The Lord and his warriors are coming to destroy the whole world.”
“Wail, because the day of the Lord is near, and destruction from God will arrive.”
“Therefore every hand will become powerless, and every human soul will be dismayed.”
“The ambassadors will be troubled, and labor pains will seize them like a woman giving birth. They will mourn to one another, stare in amazement, and their faces will change like flame.”
“Look, the day of the Lord is coming beyond remedy, a day of wrath and anger that will make the world desolate and destroy its sinners.”
“The stars of heaven, Orion, and all the host of heaven will not give their light. It will be dark at sunrise, and the moon will not give its light.”
“I will command disasters for the whole world and call the ungodly to account for their sins. I will destroy lawbreakers’ pride and bring down the arrogant.”
“Those who remain will be more precious than gold untouched by fire, and a person more precious than the stone of Suphir.”
“Heaven will be enraged, and the earth shaken from its foundations because of the Lord of armies’ fierce anger on the day his wrath arrives.”
“Those who remain will be like a fleeing fawn or wandering sheep, with no one to gather them. Each person will return to his people and flee to his own land.”
“Whoever is captured will be overcome, and those gathered together will fall by the sword.”
“Their children will be dashed before their eyes, their houses plundered, and their wives taken.”
“Look, I will stir up the Medes against you. They do not care about silver or need gold.”
“They will shatter the young men’s bows and have no mercy on your children. Their eyes will not spare them.”
“Babylon, called glorious by the Chaldeans’ king, will become like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them.”
“It will never be inhabited, and no one will enter it for many generations. Arabians will not pass through it, and shepherds will not rest there.”
“Wild animals will rest there, and the houses will be filled with sound. Sirens will rest there, and demons will dance there.”
“Donkey-centaurs will live there, and hedgehogs will make nests in their houses. It is coming quickly and will not be delayed.”
