Isaiah

Isaiah 11

The Root of Jesse

“A rod will come out from Jesse’s root, and a flower will rise from his root.”
“The Spirit of God will rest on him: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and devoutness.”
“He will be filled with the spirit of the fear of God. He will not judge by appearance or convict by hearsay.”
“He will judge the lowly person’s case and vindicate the earth’s lowly people. He will strike the earth with the word of his mouth and destroy the ungodly one with the breath of his lips.”
“Righteousness will wrap his waist, and truth will clothe his sides.”
“The wolf will feed with the lamb, the leopard will rest with the young goat, and the calf, bull, and lion will feed together, while a little child leads them.”
“The cow and bear will feed together, and their young will stay together. The lion will eat straw like the ox.”
“An infant will place his hand over the asp’s hole and the nest of its young.”
“They will do no harm and cannot destroy anyone on my holy mountain, because the whole earth is filled with the knowledge of the Lord, like abundant water covering the seas.”
“On that day there will be the root of Jesse, and the one who rises to rule nations; the nations will hope in him, and his resting place will be honored.”
“On that day the Lord will again reveal his hand and show zeal for those of his people who remain in Assyria, Egypt, Babylon, Ethiopia, Elam, the east, and Arabia.”
“He will raise a signal for the nations and gather Israel’s lost people and Judah’s scattered people from the earth’s four corners.”
“Ephraim’s envy will be removed, and Judah’s enemies will perish. Ephraim will not envy Judah, and Judah will not afflict Ephraim.”
“They will fly over the sea in Philistine ships. Together they will plunder those from the east and Edom, and they will lay their hands first on Moab. The people of Ammon will be the first to obey them.”
“The Lord will dry up Egypt’s sea, reach his hand over the river with a strong wind, and strike its seven channels so people can cross it in sandals.”
“There will be a passage for my people who remain in Egypt, just as there was for Israel when it came out of Egypt.”
