Wisdom of Solomon

Wisdom of Solomon 10

Wisdom from Adam to Noah

1 Wisdom guarded the first-formed father of the world, who had been created alone, and rescued him from his own fall. 2 She gave him strength to rule over everything. 3 But when an unrighteous man departed from her in his anger, he perished through the rage that drove him to murder his brother. 4 When the earth was flooded because of him, wisdom saved it again by steering a righteous man on a piece of wood of little value. 5 When the nations were thrown into confusion for conspiring together in wickedness, she recognized the righteous man, kept him blameless before God, and kept him strong in the face of his compassion for his child.

Lot and the Cities of the Plain

6 When the ungodly perished, she rescued a righteous man who fled from the fire falling on Pentapolis. 7 Evidence of their wickedness still remains: a smoking wasteland, plants whose fruit never ripens, and a standing pillar of salt as a monument to an unbelieving soul. 8 Because they ignored wisdom, they were harmed not only by failing to recognize good things; they also left the world a memorial of their foolishness, so that their failures could not remain hidden. 9 But wisdom rescued those who served her from their hardships.

Jacob and Joseph

10 When a righteous man fled from his brother’s wrath, she guided him on straight paths, showed him God’s kingdom, gave him knowledge of holy things, made him prosper through his labors, and made his work abundant. 11 When greedy people oppressed him, she stood beside him and made him rich. 12 She guarded him from enemies, kept him safe from those lying in ambush, and gave him victory in a severe struggle so that he might know devoutness is stronger than everything. 13 When a righteous man was sold, she did not abandon him but rescued him from sin. 14 She went down with him into the pit and did not leave him in chains until she brought him the scepter of a kingdom and authority over those who oppressed him. She exposed his accusers as liars and gave him everlasting glory.

Out of Egypt

15 She rescued a holy people and blameless offspring from a nation of oppressors. 16 She entered the soul of the Lord’s servant and opposed terrifying kings with wonders and signs. 17 She paid the holy ones the wages of their labors, guided them along a marvelous road, sheltered them by day, and became a flame of stars for them at night. 18 She brought them across the Red Sea and led them through deep water. 19 She drowned their enemies and threw them up from the bottom of the deep.

20 Therefore the righteous plundered the ungodly. They sang praise to your holy name, Lord, and together praised your hand that fought for them. 21 Wisdom opened the mouths of the mute and made the tongues of infants speak clearly.
