Song of Songs 1

The Song of Songs

1 The Song of Songs, which is Solomon’s.

The Bride Longs for the King

2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth, for your breasts are better than wine.
3 The fragrance of your perfume oils surpasses every spice; your name is perfume oil poured out. This is why young women love you.
4 They drew you; we will run after you toward the fragrance of your perfume oils. The king brought me into his private room.
We will rejoice and be glad in you. We will love your breasts more than wine; uprightness loved you.

Dark and Beautiful

5 I am dark and beautiful, daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of Kedar, like Solomon’s curtains.
6 Do not stare at me because I am darkened, because the sun looked down on me. My mother’s sons fought with me; they made me keeper of the vineyards, but I did not keep my own vineyard.
7 Tell me, you whom my soul loves: where do you pasture your flock? Where do you rest it at noon? Why should I become like a veiled woman among your companions’ herds?
8 If you do not know yourself, most beautiful among women, go out along the tracks of the flocks and pasture your young goats beside the shepherds’ tents.
9 My companion, I compare you to my mare among Pharaoh’s chariots.
10 How beautiful your cheeks are, like turtledoves, and your neck, like necklaces!
11 We will make you ornaments of gold marked with silver.

Myrrh and Henna

12 While the king reclined at his table, my nard gave off its fragrance.
13 My beloved is a bundle of myrrh to me; he will spend the night between my breasts.
14 My beloved is a cluster of henna blossoms to me in the vineyards of Engedi.
15 Look, you are beautiful, my companion! Look, you are beautiful; your eyes are doves.
16 Look, you are handsome, my beloved, and truly lovely. Our bed is shady.
17 The beams of our houses are cedars, and our ceilings are cypresses.
