Ecclesiastes 11

Bread on the Water

1 Send your bread out over the surface of the water, because after many days you will find it. 2 Give a share to seven, and also to eight, because you do not know what evil will occur on the earth. 3 If clouds are filled with rain, they pour it out on the earth. Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, wherever the tree falls, there it will remain. 4 Whoever watches the wind will not sow, and whoever looks at the clouds will not reap. 5 In these things, no one knows the path of the wind or how bones form in the womb of a pregnant woman. In the same way, you do not know the works of God, who makes everything. 6 Sow your seed in the morning, and do not let your hand rest in the evening, because you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both will be equally good.

Light Is Sweet

7 Light is sweet, and it is good for the eyes to see the sun. 8 Even if a person lives many years and rejoices in them all, let him remember the days of darkness, because they will be many. Everything that comes is futile.

Rejoice, Young Man

9 Rejoice, young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you during the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes, but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. 10 Remove anger from your heart and put evil away from your flesh, because youth and folly are futile.
