Proverbs 29

Rulers and Those They Rule

A person who corrects is better than a stiff-necked person, for when the latter is suddenly inflamed, there is no healing.
When the righteous are praised, peoples rejoice, but when the ungodly rule, people groan.
The father of a person who loves wisdom rejoices, but whoever keeps company with prostitutes will destroy wealth.
A righteous king raises up a country, but a lawbreaker tears it down.
Whoever prepares a net before his own friend wraps it around his own feet.
A great snare awaits a person who sins, but the righteous will have joy and gladness.
A righteous person knows how to judge for the needy, but an ungodly person will not understand knowledge, and a poor person does not have a discreet mind.
Pestilent people set a city on fire, but the wise turned away wrath.
A wise person judges nations, but a worthless person becomes angry, is laughed at, and does not cower.
People who share in bloodshed will hate a holy person, but the upright will seek his soul.
A fool pours out all his anger, but a wise person stores part of it away.
When a king listens to an unjust word, all those under him become lawbreakers.
When a creditor and debtor meet one another, the Lord watches over them both.
When a king judges the poor in truth, his throne will be established as a testimony.
Blows and corrections give wisdom, but a child who wanders disgraces his parents.
When the ungodly become numerous, sins become numerous, but when they fall, the righteous become afraid.
Discipline your son, and he will give you rest and bring honor to your soul.
There will be no interpreter for a lawbreaking nation, but whoever guards the law is blessed.
A stubborn servant will not be disciplined with words, for even if he understands, he will not obey.
If you see a person who is hasty with words, know that a fool has more hope than he does.
Whoever lives indulgently from childhood will become a servant and will grieve over himself in the end.
An angry person digs up strife, and a hot-tempered person digs up sins.
Arrogance brings a person low, but the Lord supports the humble with glory.
Whoever shares with a thief hates his own soul. If people hear an oath presented and do not report it,
they are tripped up because they fear people and are ashamed before them, but whoever trusts in the Lord will rejoice. Ungodliness makes a person stumble, but whoever trusts in the Master will be saved.
Many people court rulers, but what is right for a person comes from the Lord.
An unjust person is a detestable thing to the righteous, and a straight road is a detestable thing to the lawless.
