Psalms 143

A psalm by David, when his son was pursuing him.

Listen to my prayer, Lord; hear my plea in your truth, and listen to me in your righteousness.
Do not enter into judgment with your servant, because no one living will be found righteous in your presence.
The enemy pursued my soul, humbled my life to the ground, and seated me in dark places like those long dead.
My spirit became despondent over me, and my heart was troubled within me.
I remembered ancient days and meditated on all your works; I considered the works of your hands.
I spread my hands toward you; my soul was like waterless land before you. Pause.
Listen to me quickly, Lord; my spirit failed. Do not turn your face away from me, or I will become like those descending into a pit.
Let me hear your mercy in the morning, because I trusted in you. Make known to me, Lord, the way I should walk, because I lifted my soul to you.
Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, because I fled to you for refuge.
Teach me to do your will, because you are my God. Your good Spirit will guide me in an upright land.
For your name’s sake, Lord, you will give me life; in your righteousness you will bring my soul out of affliction.
In your mercy you will utterly destroy my enemies and destroy everyone who afflicts my soul, because I am your servant.
