Psalms
Psalms 137
By David.
1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat and wept when we remembered Zion.
2 On the willows in its midst we hung our instruments.
3 There our captors asked us for words of songs, and those who carried us away asked for a hymn:
“Sing us one of Zion’s songs.”
4 How can we sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand be forgotten.
6 May my tongue cling to my throat if I do not remember you, if I do not place Jerusalem at the beginning of my gladness.
7 Lord, remember Edom’s sons on Jerusalem’s day, when they said,
“Empty it! Empty it down to its foundation!”
8 Miserable daughter of Babylon, blessed is the one who repays you the repayment you gave us.
9 Blessed is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rock.
