Psalms 132

A song of ascents.

Lord, remember David and all his gentleness—
how he swore to the Lord and made a vow to the God of Jacob:
“I will not enter the tent of my house or climb onto the couch of my bed.
I will not give sleep to my eyes, slumber to my eyelids, or rest to my temples
until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling for the God of Jacob.”
See, we heard of it in Ephrath and found it in the fields of the forest.
Let us enter his dwellings and bow down at the place where his feet stood.
Rise, Lord, into your resting place, you and the ark of your sanctuary.
Your priests will clothe themselves with righteousness, and your holy ones will rejoice.
For the sake of your servant David, do not turn away the face of your anointed one.
The Lord swore truth to David and will not reject it:
“I will set the fruit of your body upon your throne.
If your sons keep my covenant and these witnesses that I will teach them, their sons will also sit upon your throne forever.”
The Lord chose Zion and preferred her as a dwelling for himself.
“This is my resting place forever and ever. I will live here, because I preferred her.
I will richly bless her provisions and fill her poor with bread.
I will clothe her priests with rescue, and her holy ones will rejoice greatly.
There I will make a horn spring up for David; I prepared a lamp for my anointed one.
I will clothe his enemies with shame, but my sanctuary will flourish upon him.”
