Psalms 129

A song of ascents.

They often fought against me from my youth—let Israel say it now—
“they often fought against me from my youth, yet they could not prevail against me.
Sinners worked upon my back; they prolonged their lawlessness.
The righteous Lord cut apart sinners’ necks.
May all who hate Zion be ashamed and turned back.
May they become like grass on rooftops, which dried up before it was pulled out.
The reaper did not fill his hand with it, nor did the one gathering sheaves fill his arms.
Those passing by did not say, ‘The Lord’s blessing be upon you; we have blessed you in the Lord’s name.’”
