Psalms 97

By David, when his land was established.

The Lord reigns; let the earth rejoice and many islands be glad.
Cloud and darkness surround him; righteousness and judgment are the foundation of his throne.
Fire will go before him and burn his enemies all around.
His lightning appeared to the inhabited world; the earth saw and shook.
The mountains melted like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of the whole earth.
The heavens proclaimed his righteousness, and all peoples saw his glory.
Let all who bow down to carved images and boast in their idols be ashamed. Bow down to him, all his messengers.
Zion heard and rejoiced, and the daughters of Judea celebrated because of your judgments, Lord.
You are the Lord Most High over all the earth, greatly exalted above all gods.
You who love the Lord, hate evil! The Lord guards the souls of those who are holy to him and rescues them from sinners’ hands.
Light sprang up for the righteous, and gladness for those whose hearts are upright.
Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
