Psalms 94

A psalm by David for the fourth day of the week.

The Lord is a God of vengeance; the God of vengeance spoke openly.
Be exalted, Judge of the earth; repay the arrogant.
How long will sinners boast, Lord? How long will sinners boast?
Will they utter and speak injustice? Will all who practice lawlessness speak this way?
They humbled your people, Lord, and harmed your inheritance.
They killed widow and newcomer and murdered orphans.
They said,
“The Lord will not see, and Jacob’s God will not understand.”
Understand, you fools among the people! You senseless people, when will you become wise?
Does the one who planted the ear not hear? Does the one who formed the eye not observe?
Will the one who disciplines nations not correct—the one who teaches a human being knowledge?
The Lord knows that human thoughts are futile.
Blessed is the person you discipline, Lord, and teach from your law,
to calm him during evil days until a pit is dug for the sinner.
The Lord will not reject his people or abandon his inheritance,
until righteousness returns to judgment and all whose hearts are upright follow it. Pause.
Who will rise with me against evildoers? Who will stand beside me against those who practice lawlessness?
If the Lord had not helped me, my soul would soon have lodged in Hades.
If I said, “My foot was shaken,” your mercy helped me, Lord.
Lord, according to the abundance of pains in my heart, your comforts loved my soul.
Will a throne of lawlessness that fashions hardship by decree have fellowship with you?
They will hunt the righteous person’s soul and condemn innocent blood.
But the Lord became my refuge, and my God became the helper of my hope.
He will repay them for their lawlessness, and the Lord our God will make them disappear because of their evil.
