Psalms 86

A prayer by David.

Incline your ear, Lord, and listen to me, because I am poor and needy.
Guard my soul, because I am holy. My God, save your servant who trusts in you.
Show me mercy, Lord, because I will cry out to you all day.
Gladden your servant’s soul, because I lifted my soul to you, Lord.
You, Lord, are kind, gentle, and abundant in mercy toward all who call upon you.
Listen to my prayer, Lord, and pay attention to the voice of my plea.
On a day of my affliction I cried out to you, because you listened to me.
No one among the gods is like you, Lord, and no works compare with yours.
All the nations you made will come, bow down before you, Lord, and glorify your name,
because you are great and do wonderful things; you alone are the great God.
Guide me in your way, Lord, and I will walk in your truth. Let my heart rejoice so that I may fear your name.
I will give thanks to you, Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify your name forever.
Your mercy is great toward me, and you rescued my soul from the lowest Hades.
God, lawbreakers rose against me, and a gathering of powerful men sought my life; they did not set you before themselves.
But you, Lord God, are compassionate, merciful, patient, abundant in mercy, and true.
Look upon me and show me mercy. Give your strength to your servant, and save your female servant’s son.
Make a sign for good with me. Let those who hate me see it and be ashamed, because you, Lord, helped and comforted me.
