Psalms
Psalms 77
For the end, concerning Jeduthun. A psalm by Asaph.
I cried to the Lord with my voice; my voice went to God, and he paid attention to me.
In the day of my affliction I sought God. My hands were stretched before him at night, and I was not deceived; my soul refused comfort.
I remembered God and rejoiced. I pondered, and my spirit grew faint. Pause.
My eyes stayed awake through the watches. I was troubled and could not speak.
I considered the ancient days, remembered years long ago, and meditated.
At night I pondered with my heart, and my spirit searched diligently:
Will the Lord reject me forever and never again be pleased?
Will he cut off his mercy forever, from generation to generation?
Will God forget to have compassion, or will he shut up his compassion in his anger? Pause.
Then I said, “Now I have begun. This is the change brought by the Most High’s right hand.”
I remembered the Lord’s works; I will remember your wonders from the beginning.
I will meditate on all your works and ponder your practices.
God, your way is in the holy place. What god is as great as our God?
You are the God who does wonders; you made your power known among the peoples.
With your arm you ransomed your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Pause.
The waters saw you, God; the waters saw you and became afraid. The depths were troubled, and the waters roared loudly.
The clouds gave their voice, and your arrows passed through.
The sound of your thunder was in the wheel. Your lightning shone on the inhabited world; the earth shook and trembled.
Your way is in the sea and your paths in deep waters, but your footprints will not be known.
You guided your people like sheep by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
