Psalms 76

For the end, among hymns. A psalm by Asaph, a song concerning the Assyrian.

God is known in Judea; his name is great in Israel.
His place came to be in peace, and his dwelling in Zion.
There he broke the power of the bows, the shield, the sword, and the battle. Pause.
You shine wonderfully from the ancient mountains.
Everyone foolish in heart was troubled. Every wealthy person slept their sleep and found nothing in their hands.
At your rebuke, God of Jacob, those riding horses fell asleep.
You are fearsome. Who can stand against you? From then on comes your anger.
You made judgment heard from heaven. The earth was afraid and became quiet
when God arose for judgment, to save all the gentle of the earth. Pause.
A person’s inward thought will give thanks to you, and what remains of that thought will celebrate a festival for you.
Make vows and fulfill them to the Lord your God. All who surround him will bring gifts
to the Fearsome One who takes away the spirits of rulers, who is fearsome among the kings of the earth.
