Psalms
Psalms 72
For Solomon.
God, give your judgment to the king and your righteousness to the king’s son,
so he may judge your people with righteousness and your poor with judgment.
May the mountains bring peace to your people, and the hills bring righteousness.
He will judge the poor among the people, save the children of the needy, and humble the one who brings false charges.
He will remain as long as the sun and before the moon, from generation to generation.
He will come down like rain on fleece, like drops falling on the earth.
In his days righteousness will spring up, along with abundant peace until the moon is removed.
He will rule from sea to sea and from the river to the ends of the earth.
Cushites will fall before him, and his enemies will lick the dust.
The kings of Tarshish and the islands will bring gifts; the kings of Arabia and Sheba will offer gifts.
All kings will bow down to him; all nations will serve him.
He rescued the poor from a ruler and the needy person who had no helper.
He will spare the poor and needy and save the souls of the needy.
He will ransom their souls from interest and injustice, and their name will be precious before him.
He will live, and some of Arabia’s gold will be given to him. They will pray for him continually and bless him all day long.
There will be a firm planting on the earth, on the tops of the mountains. Its fruit will rise above Lebanon, and people from the city will flourish like grass from the earth.
May his name be blessed forever. His name will remain before the sun, and every tribe of the earth will be blessed in him; every nation will call him blessed.
Blessed is the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does wonders.
Blessed is his glorious name forever and forever and ever. The whole earth will be filled with his glory. May it be! May it be!
The hymns of David son of Jesse are finished.
