Psalms
Psalms 57
For the end. Do not destroy. An inscription by David, when he fled from Saul into the cave.
1 Show me mercy, God; show me mercy, because my soul trusted in you. I will trust in the shadow of your wings until lawlessness passes by.
2 I will cry out to God Most High, to the God who treated me well.
3 He sent from heaven and saved me; he put those who trampled me to shame. Pause. God sent out his mercy and truth
4 and rescued my soul from among lions’ cubs. I lay down to sleep while troubled. Human beings’ teeth are weapons and arrows, and their tongue is a sharp sword.
5 Be exalted above the heavens, God, and let your glory be above all the earth.
6 They prepared a trap for my feet and bowed down my soul. They dug a pit before me and fell into it themselves. Pause.
7 My heart is ready, God; my heart is ready. I will sing and make music.
8 Wake up, my glory! Wake up, harp and lyre! I will wake at dawn.
9 Lord, I will give thanks to you among peoples; I will make music to you among nations.
10 Your mercy was magnified to the heavens and your truth to the clouds.
11 Be exalted above the heavens, God, and let your glory be above all the earth.
