Psalms 56

For the end, concerning the people far removed from the holy places. An inscription by David, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.

Show me mercy, Lord, because a man trampled me; fighting all day, he afflicted me.
My enemies trampled me all day, because many fight me from above.
By day I will be afraid, but I will trust in you.
In God I will praise my words all day. I trusted in God and will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?
All day they detested my words; every thought they had about me was for evil.
They will stay nearby and hide; they will watch my heel, just as they waited for my life.
Surely you will not save them for nothing; God, bring peoples down in anger.
I told you about my life. You placed my tears before you, just as you promised.
My enemies will turn back on the day I call upon you. Look, I know that you are my God.
In God I will praise a saying; in the Lord I will praise a word.
I trusted in God and will not be afraid. What can a human being do to me?
The vows I will fulfill in praise of you are upon me, God,
because you rescued my soul from death and my feet from slipping, so that I may please God in the light of the living.
