Psalms
Psalms 52
For the end. For understanding, by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and reported to Saul, ‘David has gone to Abimelech’s house.’
1 Why do you boast in evil, mighty man, practicing lawlessness all day?
2 Your tongue devised injustice; you practiced deceit like a sharpened razor.
3 You loved evil more than goodness and injustice more than speaking righteousness. Pause.
4 You loved every destructive word, a deceitful tongue.
5 Therefore God will tear you down completely. May he pluck you up, drive you from your dwelling, and remove your root from the land of the living. Pause.
6 The righteous will see, fear, laugh at him, and say,
7 “Look at the man who did not make God his helper but trusted in his abundant wealth and grew strong in his futility.”
8 But I am like a fruitful olive tree in God’s house. I trusted in God’s mercy forever and ever.
9 I will give thanks to you forever because you acted, and I will wait for your name, because it is kind before your holy ones.
