Psalms 48

A psalm of a song by the sons of Korah, for the second day of the week.

The Lord is great and highly praised in the city of our God, on his holy mountain,
well rooted as the joy of all the earth. The mountains of Zion, the sides of the north, are the city of the great King.
God is known in her strongholds whenever he helps her.
Look, the kings gathered and came together.
When they saw her, they were amazed, troubled, and shaken.
Trembling seized them there—labor pains like those of a woman giving birth.
With a violent wind you will shatter the ships of Tarshish.
Just as we heard, so we saw in the city of the Lord of armies, in the city of our God. God established it forever. Pause.
God, we considered your mercy within your temple.
Like your name, God, your praise reaches the ends of the earth. Your right hand is full of righteousness.
Let Mount Zion rejoice; let the daughters of Judea celebrate because of your judgments, Lord.
Circle Zion and surround her; recount it in her towers.
Set your hearts on her strength and divide up her strongholds so that you may tell another generation.
This God is our God forever and ever; he will shepherd us forever.
