Psalms 41

For the end. A psalm by David.

1 Blessed is the one who understands the poor and needy; the Lord will rescue him on an evil day.
2 May the Lord guard him, keep him alive, and bless him in the land. May he not hand him over to his enemy’s hands.
3 May the Lord help him on his bed of pain. You turned his whole bed during his sickness.
4 I said, “Lord, show me mercy. Heal my soul, because I sinned against you.”
5 My enemies said evil things about me:
“When will he die and his name perish?”
6 If one came in to see me, he spoke empty words. His heart gathered lawlessness to itself; he went outside and spoke of it.
7 All my enemies whispered together against me; they planned evil against me.
8 They laid a lawbreaking charge against me:
“Surely the one who lies down will not rise again?”
9 Even the man who was at peace with me, whom I trusted—the one who ate my bread—greatly lifted his heel against me.
10 But you, Lord, show me mercy and raise me up, and I will repay them.
11 By this I know that you delight in me: my enemy will not rejoice over me.
12 You supported me because of my innocence and established me in your presence forever.
13 Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, from eternity and into eternity. May it be so! May it be so!
