Psalms
Psalms 33
By David.
Celebrate in the Lord, you righteous! Praise is fitting for the upright.
Give thanks to the Lord with a lyre; make music to him with a ten-stringed harp.
Sing him a new song; make music skillfully with shouts of joy.
The Lord’s word is upright, and all his works are done in faithfulness.
He loves acts of mercy and judgment; the earth is full of the Lord’s mercy.
By the Lord’s word the heavens were established, and by the breath of his mouth all their forces.
He gathers the sea’s waters as in a wineskin and places the depths in storehouses.
Let the whole earth fear the Lord, and let everyone living in the inhabited world tremble because of him.
He spoke, and they came to be; he commanded, and they were created.
The Lord scatters the nations’ plans, rejects the peoples’ thoughts, and rejects the rulers’ plans.
But the Lord’s counsel remains forever, the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose as his own inheritance.
The Lord looked down from heaven and saw all human beings.
From his prepared dwelling place, he looked upon everyone living on earth.
He formed each of their hearts and understands all their works.
A king is not saved by a large army, and a giant will not be saved by his great strength.
A horse provides false hope for rescue; even with its great power, it will not be saved.
The Lord’s eyes are on those who fear him, those who trust in his mercy,
to rescue their souls from death and sustain them during famine.
Our soul waits for the Lord, because he is our helper and defender.
Our heart will rejoice in him, because we trusted in his holy name.
May your mercy be upon us, Lord, just as we have trusted in you.
