Psalms 27

By David, before he was anointed.

The Lord is my light and the one who saves me; whom will I fear? The Lord is the defender of my life; of whom will I be afraid?
When evildoers approached to eat my flesh—those who afflicted me and my enemies—they weakened and fell.
Even if an army lines up against me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if war rises against me, even then I will trust.
I asked one thing from the Lord, and this is what I will seek: to live in the Lord’s house all the days of my life, to gaze upon the Lord’s beauty and visit his temple.
He hid me in his tent on the day of my troubles. He sheltered me in the secret place of his tent and lifted me high upon a rock.
Now he has lifted my head over my enemies. I went around and offered a sacrifice of rejoicing in his tent; I will sing and make music to the Lord.
Listen, Lord, to the voice with which I cried out. Show me mercy and listen to me.
My heart said to you, “My face sought you.” I will seek your face, Lord.
Do not turn your face away from me or turn from your servant in anger. Become my helper; do not reject or abandon me, God, the one who saves me.
My father and mother abandoned me, but the Lord received me.
Instruct me in your way, Lord, and guide me on a straight path because of my enemies.
Do not hand me over to the souls of those who afflict me, because unjust witnesses rose against me, and injustice lied to itself.
I believe that I will see the Lord’s good things in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord. Be courageous, let your heart be strong, and wait for the Lord.
