Psalms 12

For the end, concerning the eighth. A psalm by David.

1 Save me, Lord, because a holy person is no more and truths have become scarce among human beings.
2 Each person spoke futile things to his neighbor. With deceitful lips, they spoke from one heart and then another.
3 May the Lord destroy every deceitful lip and every tongue that speaks boastfully—
4 those who said,
“We will make our tongue great. Our lips belong to us. Who is lord over us?”
5 “Because of the misery of the needy and the groaning of the poor, I will now rise,” says the Lord. “I will place them in rescue; I will speak boldly in it.”
6 The Lord’s words are pure words, like silver refined by fire, tested in the earth and purified seven times.
7 You, Lord, will guard us and preserve us from this generation forever.
8 The ungodly walk all around. According to your height, you have greatly honored human beings.
