Psalms
Psalms 7
A psalm by David, which he sang to the Lord because of the words of Cush the Benjaminite.
Lord my God, I have trusted in you. Save me from all who pursue me, and rescue me,
or the enemy may seize my soul like a lion when no one is there to ransom or save.
Lord my God, if I have done this—if there is injustice in my hands,
if I have repaid those who repaid me with evil—then may I fall away from my enemies empty-handed.
May the enemy pursue and seize my soul, trample my life into the ground, and make my glory live in the dust. Pause.
Rise, Lord, in your anger! Be exalted at the farthest boundaries of my enemies. Awake, Lord my God, according to the decree you commanded.
A gathering of peoples will surround you; for its sake, return on high.
The Lord will judge the peoples. Judge me, Lord, according to my righteousness and the innocence within me.
Let sinners’ evil be brought to an end, and you will direct the righteous, God, who examines hearts and kidneys.
My help comes righteously from God, who saves the upright in heart.
God is a righteous judge, strong and patient, not bringing anger every day.
If you do not turn back, he will polish his sword. He has bent and prepared his bow.
On it he has prepared instruments of death and fashioned his arrows for those who are burning.
Look, the sinner labored with injustice, conceived trouble, and gave birth to lawlessness.
He opened and dug out a pit, and he will fall into the hole he made.
His trouble will return on his own head, and his injustice will descend on the top of his own head.
I will give thanks to the Lord according to his righteousness, and I will make music to the name of the Lord Most High.
