Job 37

The Bible (Septuagint)

Job

Job 37

My Heart Is Shaken

1 At this too my heart is shaken
and slips out of its place.
2 Listen: there is a sound in the heat of the Lord’s anger,
and a word will come out of his mouth.
3 His rule reaches under the whole sky,
and his light to the wings of the earth.
4 Behind him a voice will cry out;
he will thunder with the voice of his majesty,
and he will not exchange them, for one will hear his voice.
5 The Strong One will thunder wonders with his voice,
for he has done great things, and we did not know them —
6 ordering the snow, “Be on the earth,”
and the winter rain, and the winter storm of his mighty rains.
7 He seals up the hand of every man,
so that every man may know his own weakness.
8 The wild animals have gone in under cover
and gone quiet in their dens.
9 Out of the storehouses come the whirlwinds,
and out of the mountain peaks, the cold.

He Steers the Water

10 From the breath of the Strong One comes the frost,
and he steers the water wherever he pleases.
11 A cloud plasters over what he has chosen;
his light scatters the cloud.
12 And he himself turns the circling clouds about by his steering,
to do their work;
everything he orders them
is set in place by him upon the earth,
13 whether for discipline, or for his own land,
or for mercy — and he will find him.

Stand Still, Job

14 Give ear to this, Job.
Stand still, and be warned of the power of the Lord.
15 We know that God set his works in place,
making light out of darkness.
16 He knows how the clouds are parted,
and the terrible downfalls of the wicked.
17 But your own robe is warm,
and there is quiet over the land.
18 Will you make the ancient skies firm along with him,
strong as the look of poured metal?
19 Why? Teach me what we are to say to him,
and let us stop saying so much.
20 Is there a book, or a scribe standing beside me,
so that I could stand up and silence a man?
21 The light is not there for everyone to see;
it shines far off in the ancient skies,
like the light that comes from him upon the clouds.

Gold Out of the North

22 Out of the north come clouds shining like gold;
on these are the great glory and honor of the Almighty.
23 And we find no other to match him in strength.
He is the one who judges what is right — do you not think he listens?
24 So men will fear him,
and the wise at heart will fear him too.
