Job 26

The Bible (Septuagint)

Job

Job 26

1 Then Job answered:

2 “Whom have you attached yourself to? Whom are you setting out to help?
Is it not the one who has great strength, whose arm is mighty?
3 Whom have you given counsel to? Is it not the one who has all wisdom?
Or whom will you follow? Is it not the one whose power is greatest?
4 To whom have you announced your words?
And whose breath is it that has come out of you?
5 Will giants be brought to birth
under the water, and under those who live beside it?
6 Hades lies naked before him,
and destruction has no covering.
7 He stretches out the north over nothing,
and hangs the earth on nothing.
8 He binds up water in his clouds,
and the cloud does not tear open under it.
9 He holds back the face of his throne,
spreading his cloud over it.
10 By a decree he drew a circle on the face of the water,
until light and darkness come to their end.
11 The pillars of heaven were flung wide
and stood amazed at his rebuke.
12 By his strength he stilled the sea,
and by his knowledge he struck down the sea creature.
13 The bars of heaven are afraid of him,
and by a decree he put the rebel serpent to death.
14 Look, these are parts of his way,
and what we hear in him is one drop of a word.
But the might of his thunder — who knows when he will make it?”
