Job
Job 18
1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered:
2 “How long before you stop?
Hold off, so that we can speak too.
3 Why have we stood silent in front of you
like four-footed animals?
4 Anger has taken hold of you.
What of it? If you die,
will the world under heaven be left empty?
Will mountains be pulled down off their foundations?
The Lamp of the Ungodly
5 The light of the ungodly will go out,
and their flame will not rise.
6 His light is darkness in his lodging,
and the lamp above him will go out.
7 Let the smallest men hunt down his goods,
and let his own plan trip him up.
8 His foot has been thrown into a trap;
let him be tangled in a net.
9 Let snares come on him;
those who thirst for him will be made strong against him.
10 His rope is hidden in the ground,
and the catch that takes him lies across the path.
11 Let pains destroy him all around,
and let many come round his feet in a tight hunger.
12 An extraordinary fall has been made ready for him.
His Roots Dry Up
13 Let the branches of his feet be eaten away,
and death will devour everything lovely about him.
14 Let healing be torn out of his lodging,
and let hardship take hold of him on a royal charge.
15 It will camp in his tent on his own night,
and his fine things will be strewn over with sulfur.
16 Underneath, his roots will dry up,
and above, his harvest will fall in.
17 Let the memory of him be lost out of the earth,
and his name is left out in the open, outside.
18 Let someone shove him out of the light into the darkness.
19 He will not be recognized among his own people,
and his house will not be saved anywhere under heaven;
others will live on what was his.
20 The last men groaned over him,
and amazement took hold of the first.
21 These are the houses of the unrighteous,
and this is the place of those who do not know the Lord.”
