Job 17

The Bible (Septuagint)

Job

Job 17

1 “I am being destroyed, carried off on the wind;
I beg for burial and do not get it.
2 Worn out, I plead — and what have I done?
3 Strangers have stolen what belonged to me.
Who is this man? Let his hand be bound to mine.
4 You hid their heart away from discernment;
that is why you will not lift them up.
5 He will announce evils to his own company,
while my own eyes have wasted away over my sons.
6 You have made me a byword among the nations,
and I have turned into their laughingstock.
7 My eyes have gone dim with anger,
and they have all laid siege to me.

Let the Righteous Rise Up

8 Amazement has taken hold of honest men at this,
and let the righteous man rise up against the lawbreaker.
9 Let the faithful man keep to his own road,
and let the man with clean hands take up courage.
10 But come on then, all of you, press in;
for I find nothing true in you.
11 My days have gone by in groaning,
and the joints of my heart are torn apart.
12 They have turned night into day;
the light is close, in the face of the darkness.

I Have Called Death My Father

13 For if I wait, Hades is my house,
and my bed is laid out in the thick darkness.
14 I have called death my father,
and rot my mother and my sister.
15 So where is my hope now?
Will I ever see my good things?
16 Will they go down with me into Hades,
or will we go down together onto the mound?”
