2 Chronicles
2 Chronicles 31
The Shrines Come Down
1 And when all these things were finished, all Israel who were found in the cities of Judah went out and broke the pillars in pieces, and cut down the sacred groves, and pulled down the high places and the altars out of all Judea and Benjamin, and out of Ephraim and from Manasseh, until they had made an end of them. Then all Israel returned, each man to his own inheritance, and to their cities.
The King Sets the Divisions in Order
2 And Hezekiah appointed the divisions of the priests and the Levites, and the divisions of each man according to his own service, for the priests and for the Levites — for the whole burnt offering and for the sacrifice of well-being, and to praise, and to give thanks, and to serve in the gates, in the courts of the house of the Lord. 3 And the king’s portion out of his own goods was for the whole burnt offerings: the morning one and the evening one, and whole burnt offerings for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the feasts that are written in the law of the Lord. 4 And he told the people who lived in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, so that they might be strong in the service of the house of the Lord.
Heaps in the Courts of the Lord
5 And as soon as he gave the command, the children of Israel brought firstfruits in abundance — grain and wine and oil and honey, and every produce of the field; and they brought in tenths of everything, in great amount — 6 the children of Israel and Judah. And those who lived in the cities of Judah, they too brought in tenths of calves and sheep, and tenths of goats, and made them holy to the Lord their God; and they brought them in and set them down, heap upon heap. 7 In the third month the heaps began to be laid, and in the seventh month they were finished.
8 And Hezekiah came, and the rulers, and they saw the heaps, and they blessed the Lord and his people Israel. 9 And Hezekiah asked the priests and the Levites about the heaps, 10 and Azariah the priest, the ruler of the house of Zadok, spoke to him and said, “From the time the firstfruits began to be brought into the house of the Lord, we have eaten and drunk and had plenty left over; for the Lord has blessed his people, and we have this great amount still left over.”
Storerooms, and Men to Keep Them
11 And Hezekiah said to prepare storerooms in the house of the Lord, and they prepared them; 12 and they brought in there the firstfruits and the tenths, faithfully. And over them Conaniah the Levite was the overseer, and Shimei his brother was second to him, 13 and Jeiel and Azaziah and Nahath and Asahel and Jerimoth and Jozabad and Eliel and Ismachiah and Mahath and Benaiah and his sons were appointed under Conaniah and Shimei his brother, just as King Hezekiah and Azariah the leader of the house of the Lord had commanded.
14 And Kore son of Imnah the Levite, the gatekeeper toward the east, was over the gifts, to give the firstfruits to the Lord, and the most holy things, 15 by the hand of Odom and Benjamin and Jeshua and Shimei and Amariah and Shecaniah, by the hand of the priests, faithfully, to give to their brothers by their divisions, to great and small alike — 16 besides the increase of the males from three years old and upward: to everyone who came into the house of the Lord, a portion by the daily reckoning, day by day, for the service in the divisions of their order.
17 This is the enrollment of the priests by their fathers’ houses; and the Levites in their divisions, from twenty years old and upward, in their order, 18 in the registers, in all the increase of their sons and their daughters, for the whole number; for they faithfully kept the holy place pure. 19 And for the sons of Aaron, who served as priests — those from their cities, in city after city, men who were named by name — to give a portion to every male among the priests, and to everyone counted among the Levites.
20 And Hezekiah did so in all Judah, and he did what was good and right before the Lord his God. 21 And in every work that he began — in the labor in the house of the Lord, and in the law, and in the decrees — he sought out his God with his whole soul, and he did it, and he prospered.
