2 Chronicles

2 Chronicles 5

The Work Is Finished

1 And all the work that Solomon did in the house of the Lord was finished. And Solomon brought in the holy things of David his father: the silver and the gold and the vessels he put into the treasury of the house of the Lord.

The Ark Is Carried Up

2 Then Solomon called together the elders of Israel and all the rulers of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers’ houses of the children of Israel, to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David — that is, Zion. 3 And every man of Israel was called together to the king at the feast — this is the seventh month. 4 And all the elders of Israel came, and all the Levites took up the ark, 5 and they brought up the ark, and the tent of witness, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought it up. 6 And King Solomon, and the whole gathering of Israel, and those who feared, and those among them who had come together before the ark, were sacrificing calves and sheep that could not be numbered or counted, for their multitude.

7 And the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord into its place, into the inner room of the house, into the most holy place, under the wings of the cherubim. 8 And the cherubim were spreading their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and its poles from above. 9 And the poles stood out far enough that the heads of the poles could be seen from the holy place in front of the inner room; outside they could not be seen. And they were there to this day. 10 There was nothing in the ark but the two tablets that Moses put there at Horeb, which the Lord made in covenant with the children of Israel when they came out of the land of Egypt.

The Cloud Fills the House

11 And it happened, when the priests came out of the holy place — for all the priests who were found there had been made holy; they were not arranged by their daily divisions at that time — 12 and the Levites who sang the psalms, all of them, of the sons of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, and of their sons and their brothers, clothed in robes of fine linen, with cymbals and harps and lyres, were standing in front of the altar, and with them a hundred and twenty priests blowing the trumpets; 13 and there was one voice in the trumpeting and in the singing of the psalms and in the crying aloud with one voice, to give thanks and praise the Lord. And as they lifted up their voice with trumpets and cymbals and instruments of song, and said, “Give thanks to the Lord, for it is good, for his mercy is forever,” then the house was filled with a cloud of the glory of the Lord; 14 and the priests could not stand to serve because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.
