2 Chronicles 3

The House Is Begun on Mount Moriah

1 And Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to David his father, in the place David had made ready on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. 2 He began to build in the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.

The Measurements, the Cedar and the Gold

3 And this is how Solomon began to build the house of God: the length — by the first measurement — was ninety feet, and the width thirty feet. 4 And the porch in front of the house: its length, running along the width of the house, was thirty feet, and its height a hundred and eighty feet. And he overlaid it on the inside with pure gold.

5 And the great house he lined with cedar wood and overlaid with pure gold, and he carved palm trees and chainwork on it. 6 And he adorned the house with precious stones for glory, and with gold — gold from Parvaim. 7 And he covered the house with gold: the walls, the gateways, the ceilings and the doorframes; and he carved cherubim on the walls.

The Most Holy Place and the Two Cherubim

8 And he made the house of the most holy place. Its length, running along the width of the house, was thirty feet, and its width thirty feet; and he overlaid it with pure gold for the cherubim, to the amount of about twenty-two and a half tons. 9 And the weight of the nails — the weight of one of them — was a pound and a quarter of gold. And he overlaid the upper room with gold.

10 And in the house, in the most holy place, he made two cherubim, worked out of wood, and he overlaid them with gold. 11 And the wings of the cherubim were thirty feet in length: one wing, seven and a half feet, touched the wall of the house, and its other wing, seven and a half feet, touched the wing of the other cherub; 12 and the wing of the second cherub, seven and a half feet, touched the wall of the house, and its other wing, seven and a half feet, touched the wing of the other cherub. 13 The wings of these cherubim, spread out, reached thirty feet. And they stood on their feet, and their faces were turned toward the house.

14 And he made the veil of blue and purple and scarlet and fine linen, and he wove cherubim into it.

The Two Pillars in Front of the House

15 In front of the house he also made two pillars, fifty-two and a half feet high, with tops of seven and a half feet. 16 And he made chains in the inner room and set them on the tops of the pillars; and he made a hundred pomegranates and hung them on the chainwork. 17 And he set the pillars up in front of the temple, one on the right hand and one on the left; and he called the name of the one on the right Set Upright, and the name of the one on the left Strength.
