1 Chronicles 26

1 For the divisions of the gates: for the sons of Korah — Meshelemiah son of Kore, from the sons of Abiasaph. [a] 2 And Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth, 3 Elam the fifth, Johanan the sixth, Elioenai the seventh. [b]

4 And Obed-edom had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth, 5 Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peullethai the eighth — for God blessed him. 6 And to Shemaiah his son were born sons of the firstborn, heads over his father’s house, because they were mighty men. [c] 7 The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, and Rephael, and Obed, and Elzabad, and Ahio — mighty sons — Elihu, and Semachiah, and Isbakom. [d] 8 All these were from the sons of Obed-edom — they and their brothers and their sons — working powerfully at the service: sixty-two in all belonging to Obed-edom. 9 And Meshelemiah had sons and brothers, eighteen, mighty men.

10 And to Hosah, of the sons of Merari, there were sons keeping the first place — for he was not the firstborn, and his father made him leader 11 of the second division. Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth. All these, sons and brothers of Hosah: thirteen. [e]

12 To these belonged the divisions of the gates, to the leaders of the mighty men: turns of duty, just as their brothers had, to serve in the house of the Lord. 13 And they cast lots, for the small and for the great alike, by their fathers’ houses, gate by gate. 14 And the lot for the east fell to Shelemiah and to Zechariah. The sons of Joash cast lots for Malchijah, and the lot came out to the north. [f] 15 To Obed-edom, the south, opposite the storehouse. [g] 16 For the second lot: to Hosah, the west, after the gate of the chamber at the ascent — watch opposite watch.

17 Toward the east, six a day; toward the north, four a day; toward the south, four a day; and at the storehouse, two; 18 for those relieving guard. And toward the west, four; and at the pathway, two relieving guard. [h] 19 These were the divisions of the gatekeepers, for the sons of Korah and for the sons of Merari.

20 And the Levites their brothers were over the treasuries of the house of the Lord and over the treasuries of the things made holy. 21 The sons of Ladan, the sons of the Gershonite through Ladan; the leaders of the fathers’ houses through Ladan the Gershonite: Jeiel. [i] 22 And the sons of Jeiel: Zetham and Joel, the brothers, over the treasuries of the house of the Lord. 23 For Amram and Izhar, for Hebron and Uzziel: 24 and Shubael son of Gershom, son of Moses, was leader over the treasuries. 25 And to his brother Eliezer: Rehabiah his son, and Josiah, and Joram, and Zichri, and Shelomoth. 26 This Shelomoth and his brothers were over all the treasuries of the holy things, which David the king had made holy, and the leaders of the fathers’ houses, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds and the heads of the army — 27 what he took from the wars and from the spoils, and he made some of it holy, so that the building of the house of God should not fall short; [k] 28 and over all the holy things of Samuel the prophet, and of Saul son of Kish, and of Abner son of Ner, and of Joab son of Zeruiah: everything they had made holy was by the hand of Shelomoth and his brothers.

29 For the Izharites: Chenaniah and his sons were over the outside work over Israel, to keep the records and to give judgment. 30 For the Hebronites: Hashabiah and his brothers, mighty men, a thousand seven hundred, were over the oversight of Israel beyond the Jordan westward, for all the service of the Lord and the work of the king. 31 Of the Hebronites: Judiah was leader of the Hebronites, by their generations, by fathers’ houses. In the fortieth year of his reign they were mustered, and a mighty man was found among them in Jazer of Gilead; [l] 32 and his brothers, mighty men, two thousand seven hundred, leaders of fathers’ houses. And King David set them over the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, for every decree of the Lord and matter of the king.
