1 Chronicles 24

1 And for the sons of Aaron, divisions. The sons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. [a] 2 And Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and they had no sons; and Eleazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aaron, served as priests.

3 And David divided them — with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar — according to the count of them, according to their service, by their fathers’ houses. 4 And the sons of Eleazar were found to be more, as leaders of the mighty men, than the sons of Ithamar; and he divided them: to the sons of Eleazar, sixteen leaders by fathers’ houses, and to the sons of Ithamar, eight by their fathers’ houses. 5 And he divided them by lot, these with those, for there were rulers of the holy things and rulers of the Lord among the sons of Eleazar and among the sons of Ithamar. [b] † 6 And Shemaiah son of Nethanel, the scribe, of Levi, wrote them down before the king and the leaders, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the leaders of the fathers’ houses of the priests and of the Levites — one father’s house taken for Eleazar, and one for Ithamar.

7 And the first lot came out to Jarib, the second to Jedaiah, [c] 8 the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, 9 the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin, 10 the seventh to Koz, the eighth to Abijah, 11 the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah, [d] 12 the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim,

13 the thirteenth to Ochopha, the fourteenth to Ishbaal, 14 the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer, 15 the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Aphesse, 16 the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Ezekel, 17 the twenty-first to Jachin, the twenty-second to Gamul, 18 the twenty-third to Delaiah, the twenty-fourth to Maasai.

19 This was the count of them, according to their service, for going into the house of the Lord, according to the judgment laid on them by the hand of Aaron their father, as the Lord God of Israel had commanded. [e]

20 And for the rest of the sons of Levi: of the sons of Amram, Shubael; of the sons of Shubael, Jadiah. 21 Of Rehabiah: the leader was Isshiah. 22 And of Izhar, Shelomoth; of the sons of Shelomoth, Jahath. 23 The sons of Jediu: Amadiah the second, Jaziel the third, Jokom the fourth. [f] 24 The sons of Uzziel: Micah. The sons of Micah: Shamir. 25 The brother of Micah: Isshiah. The sons of Isshiah: Zechariah.

26 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi; the sons of Uzziah; the sons of Bonni. [g] 27 The sons of Merari by Uzziah: his sons were Ishoam, and Zaccur, and Abdi. [h] 28 Of Mahli: Eleazar and Ithamar. And Eleazar died, and he had no sons. [i] 29 Of Kish: the sons of Kish: Jerahmeel. 30 And the sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites, by their fathers’ houses.

31 And they too received lots, just as their brothers the sons of Aaron did, before the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the leaders of the fathers’ houses of the priests and of the Levites — the eldest family heads on the same footing as their younger brothers. [j]
