1 Chronicles
1 Chronicles 14
Cedar From Tyre, and the Sons Born in Jerusalem
1 And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar wood, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house. 2 And David knew that the Lord had made him ready to be king over Israel, because his kingdom had been lifted high for the sake of his people Israel. 3 And David took more wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to David.
4 And these are the names of the children born to him, the ones he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, Isobaam, Nathan, and Solomon, 5 and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Eliphelet, 6 and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Janouou, 7 and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
The First Battle in the Valley of the Giants
8 And the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, and all the Philistines went up to look for David. And David heard of it, and went out to meet them. 9 And the Philistines came and gathered in the valley of the giants. 10 And David asked of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will you give them into my hands?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up, and I will give them into your hands.”
11 And he went up to Baal-perazim, and David struck them down there. And David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand the way water breaks through.” That is why he called that place the Breach of Perazim. 12 And they left their gods behind there, and David gave the order to burn them with fire.
The Second Battle, and the Sound in the Treetops
13 And the Philistines came up once more, and gathered again in the valley of the giants. 14 And David asked of God again, and God said to him, “You are not to go after them. Turn away from them, and come at them near the pear trees. 15 And when you hear the sound of the shaking in the tops of the pear trees, then go out to the battle, for God has gone out ahead of you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
16 And he did as God commanded him, and he struck the camp of the Philistines from Gibeon as far as Gezer. 17 And the name of David went out into all the land, and the Lord put the fear of him on all the nations.
