1 Chronicles 9
Those Who Came Back to Their Holdings
1 This is all Israel, the muster of them; and these are the ones written down in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, along with those carried away to Babylon for their lawless deeds. 2 And these are the ones who lived before this in their holdings, in their cities: Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the given ones.
3 And in Jerusalem there lived some of the sons of Judah, and some of the sons of Benjamin, and some of the sons of Ephraim and Manasseh: 4 Uthai son of Ammihud, son of Omri, of the sons of Perez son of Judah; 5 and of the Shilonites: Asaiah his firstborn, and his sons; 6 of the sons of Zerah: Jeiel, and their brothers, six hundred and ninety; 7 and of the sons of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah, 8 and Ibneiah son of Jeroham; and these are the sons of Uzzi son of Machir; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Benaiah; 9 and their brothers by their generations, nine hundred and fifty-six. All these men were leaders of fathers’ houses, by their fathers’ houses.
The Priests and the Levites Who Lived in Jerusalem
10 And of the priests: Jehoiada, and Joiarim, and Jachin, 11 and Azariah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the leader of the house of God; 12 and Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, son of Jediu, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer; 13 and their brothers, leaders of fathers’ houses, one thousand seven hundred and sixty, strong and able for the work of the service of the house of God.
14 And of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; 15 and Bakbakkar, and Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah son of Micah, son of Zichri, son of Asaph; 16 and Obadiah son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah son of Ossa, son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.
The Gatekeepers and Their Watches
17 The gatekeepers: Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brothers; Shallum was the leader, 18 and until now he is at the king’s gate on the east. These are the gates of the camps of the sons of Levi. 19 And Shallum son of Kore, son of Abiasaph, son of Korah, and his brothers belonging to his father’s house — the Korahites — were over the works of the service, keeping the watches of the tent; and their fathers were over the camp of the Lord, keeping the entrance. 20 And Phinehas son of Eleazar was leader over them in time past, and these men were with him. 21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was keeper of the door of the tent of witness.
22 All those chosen for the gates, at the gates, were two hundred and twelve. These were in their courtyards; this was their register. David and Samuel the seer established them in their trust. 23 And these and their sons were over the gates in the house of the Lord, in the house of the tent, to keep watch. 24 The gates faced the four winds: east, west, north, and south. 25 And their brothers were in their courtyards, to come in every seven days, from one set time to the next, along with these. 26 For the four strong men of the gates are in a trust. And the Levites were over the chambers and over the treasuries of the house of God. 27 And they lodged around the house of God, for the watch was theirs; and they held the keys to open the doors of the temple morning by morning.
28 And some of them were over the vessels of the service, for they brought them in by count and carried them out by count. 29 And some of them were appointed over the vessels, and over all the holy vessels, and over the fine flour, the wine, the olive oil, the frankincense, and the spices. 30 And some of the sons of the priests were blenders of the perfumed oil, and worked on the spices. 31 And Mattithiah, of the Levites — he was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite — held the trust over the work of the sacrifice baked in the pan, which belonged to the great priest. 32 And Benaiah the Kohathite, from among their brothers, was over the loaves of the setting-out, to prepare them sabbath by sabbath.
33 And these were the singers, leaders of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, with their turns of duty appointed; for day and night the work was upon them. 34 These were the leaders of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, leaders by their generations; these lived in Jerusalem.
The Family of Saul
35 And in Gibeon there lived the father of Gibeon, Jeiel; and his wife’s name was Maacah; 36 and his firstborn son was Abdon, and then Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab, 37 and Gedor, and his brother, and Zechariah, and Mikloth. 38 And Mikloth became the father of Shimeah. And these lived among their brothers in Jerusalem, together with their brothers.
39 And Ner became the father of Kish, and Kish became the father of Saul, and Saul became the father of Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal. 40 And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal, and Merib-baal became the father of Micah. 41 And the sons of Micah were Pithon, and Melech, and Tarea. 42 And Ahaz became the father of Jehoiada, and Jehoiada became the father of Galemath, and Azmoth, and Zimri; and Zimri became the father of Moza, 43 and Moza became the father of Baanah; Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, Esel his son. 44 And Esel had six sons, and these are their names: Azrikam his firstborn, and Ishmael, and Seraiah, and Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Esel.
