1 Chronicles 4

1 The sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, Shobal, [a] 2 and Reaiah his son. And Shobal became the father of Jahath, and Jahath became the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These are the generations of the Zorathites. [b]

3 And these are the sons of Etam: Jezreel, and Ragma, and Jabas; and their sister’s name was Eselebbon. [c] 4 And Penuel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Osan. These are the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrath, the father of Bethlehem.

5 And Saur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Aoda and Thoada. [d] 6 And Aoda bore him Ochazam, and Ephad, and Teman, and Astheran. All these were the sons of Aoda. 7 And the sons of Thoada: Zereth, and Zohar, and Ethnan. 8 And Koz became the father of Enob and Sabeba, and of the families of the brother of Rechab son of Jarim. [e]

9 And Jabez was held in more honor than his brothers; and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “I gave birth as gabes.” [f] 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “If only you would truly bless me, and enlarge my borders, and let your hand be with me, and make it known that you will not bring me low!” And God brought him everything that he asked.

11 And Caleb the father of Achsah became the father of Machir; he was the father of Assathon. 12 And Assathon became the father of Bathrephan, and Phessee, and Thana the father of the city of Naas, the brother of Eselon the Kenizzite. These are the men of Repha. [g] 13 And the sons of Kenaz: Othniel and Seraiah. And the sons of Othniel: Hathath. 14 And Manathi became the father of Gophera. And Seraiah became the father of Joab the father of Ageaddair, for they were craftsmen. [h]

15 And the sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh: Era, Elah, and Noom. And the sons of Elah: Kenaz. 16 And his son Geseel: Ameachi, and Zapha, and Zaira, and Eserael. [i] 17 And the sons of Esri: Jether, Mored, and Epher, and Jalon. And Jether became the father of Maron, and Shammai, and Mareth the father of Eshtemoa. [j] 18 And his wife Adia bore Jared the father of Gedor, and Aber the father of Socoh, and Jekthiel the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Gelia the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mored took as his wife. [k]

19 And the sons of the wife of Iduia, the sister of Nachem. And Dalia was the father of Keilah, and Semeion the father of Joman. And the sons of Naem the father of Keilah: Agarmi, and Eshtemoa the Machathite. [l] 20 And the sons of Semion: Amnon, and Rana, the son of Anan, and Thilon. And the sons of Isei: Zoath, and the sons of Zoath. [m]

21 The sons of Shelah son of Judah: Er the father of Lecah, and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the houses of Ephrath-abak, belonging to the house of Esoba, [n] 22 and Joakim, and the men of Chozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who settled in Moab; and he brought them back — abederin athukiin. [o] 23 These are the potters who lived in Nataim and Gadera. They grew strong with the king in his kingdom, and they settled there.

24 The sons of Simeon: Nemuel, and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Shaul; 25 Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son; 26 Amuel his son, Sabud his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son. 27 And Shimei had sixteen sons and three daughters; but their brothers did not have many sons, and none of their families grew as many as the sons of Judah. [p]

28 And they lived in Beersheba, and Sama, and Moladah, and Esersual, [q] 29 and in Balaa, and Boasom, and Tholad, 30 and Bethuel, and Hormah, and Ziklag, 31 and Beth-marchaboth, and half of Sosim, and the house of Barumseorim. These were their cities until the reign of King David. [r]

32 And their farmsteads were Etam, and En-remmon, and Thokkan, and Ashan — five cities; [s] 33 and all their farmsteads lay around these cities, as far as Baal. This was their possession, and this was their record by families.

34 And Mosobab, and Jemoloch, and Josiah son of Amaziah, 35 and Joel — he was the son of Isabia, son of Seraiah, son of Asiel — 36 and Elioenai, and Jakaba, and Jasuia, and Asaiah, and Ediel, and Ishmael, and Benaiah, 37 and Zuza son of Sephei, son of Allon, son of Jedia, son of Samari, son of Shemaiah. 38 These went by the names of leaders in their clans, and in their fathers’ households they increased greatly.

39 And they went as far as Gerar, to the east of Gai, to look for pasture for their cattle. [t] 40 And they found rich, good pasture, and the land was wide open before them, and there was peace and quiet; for some of the sons of Ham had lived there before them. 41 And these men, written down by name, came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and they struck down their houses, and the Minaeans whom they found there, and they devoted them to destruction, to this day; and they settled in their place, because there was pasture there for their cattle. [u]

42 And some of them, of the sons of Simeon, went to Mount Seir — five hundred men — and Phalettia, and Noadia, and Raphaia, and Uzziel, the sons of Jesi, were their leaders. 43 And they struck down the remnant of Amalek who were left, and they have lived there to this day. [v]
