2 Kings 15
Azariah Reigns in Judah
1 In the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Azariah son of Amaziah king of Judah became king. 2 He was sixteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Chalia, of Jerusalem. 3 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to everything Amaziah his father did. 4 Only, he did not take away the high places; the people were still sacrificing and burning incense on the high places.
5 And the Lord touched the king, and he had leprosy until the day of his death; and he reigned in a house apart, while Jotham the king’s son was over the household, judging the people of the land. 6 And the rest of the acts of Azariah, and everything he did — look, are they not written in the book of the daily record of the kings of Judah? 7 And Azariah rested with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David; and Jotham his son reigned in his place.
Zechariah, Shallum, and Menahem in Israel
8 In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in Samaria, for six months. 9 And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord, as his fathers had done; he did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin. 10 And Shallum son of Jabesh and Keblaam conspired against him, and they struck him down and put him to death, and Shallum reigned in his place. 11 And the rest of the acts of Zechariah — look, they are written in the book of the daily record of the kings of Israel.
12 This was the word of the Lord that he spoke to Jehu: “Your sons to the fourth generation will sit on the throne of Israel.” And so it was.
13 And Shallum son of Jabesh became king. In the thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah, Shallum began to reign, one month, in Samaria. 14 And Menahem son of Gaddi went up from Tirzah and came to Samaria, and he struck down Shallum son of Jabesh in Samaria and put him to death. 15 And the rest of the acts of Shallum, and the conspiracy he made — look, they are written in the book of the daily record of the kings of Israel. 16 Then Menahem struck Tirzah, and everyone in it, and its territory out from Tirzah, because they had not opened to him; he struck it, and he ripped open the women who were pregnant.
17 In the thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah, Menahem son of Gaddi became king over Israel, ten years, in Samaria. 18 And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not turn away from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin. 19 In his days Pul king of the Assyrians came up against the land, and Menahem gave Pul about thirty-seven and a half tons of silver, so that his hand would be with him. 20 And Menahem raised the silver out of Israel, from every man of means, to give to the king of the Assyrians — a pound and a quarter of silver from each man. And the king of the Assyrians turned back, and did not stay there in the land.
21 And the rest of the acts of Menahem, and everything he did — look, are they not written in the book of the daily record of the kings of Israel? 22 And Menahem rested with his fathers, and Pekahiah his son reigned in his place.
Pekahiah and Pekah
23 In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekahiah son of Menahem became king over Israel in Samaria, two years. 24 And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin. 25 And Pekah son of Remaliah, his captain, conspired against him and struck him down in Samaria, in front of the king’s house, along with Argob and Aria, and with him fifty men of the four hundred; and he put him to death and reigned in his place. 26 And the rest of the acts of Pekahiah, and everything he did — look, they are written in the book of the daily record of the kings of Israel.
27 In the fifty-second year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekah son of Remaliah became king over Israel in Samaria, twenty years. 28 And he did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not turn away from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel sin. 29 In the days of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-pileser king of the Assyrians came and took Ain and Abel-beth-maacah and Janoah and Kenez and Hazor and Gilead and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and he carried them away to the Assyrians.
30 And Hoshea son of Elah formed a conspiracy against Pekah son of Remaliah, and struck him down and put him to death, and reigned in his place, in the twentieth year of Jotham son of Azariah. 31 And the rest of the acts of Pekah, and everything he did — look, they are written in the book of the daily record of the kings of Israel.
Jotham Reigns in Judah
32 In the second year of Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel, Jotham son of Azariah king of Judah began to reign. 33 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jerusha daughter of Zadok. 34 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to everything Uzziah his father did. 35 Only, he did not take away the high places; the people were still sacrificing and burning incense on the high places. He built the upper gate of the house of the Lord.
36 And the rest of the acts of Jotham, and everything he did — are they not written in the book of the daily record of the kings of Judah? 37 In those days the Lord began to send against Judah Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah. 38 And Jotham rested with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Ahaz his son reigned in his place.
