1 Kings
1 Kings 14
Rehoboam Reigns in Jerusalem
21 And Rehoboam son of Solomon reigned over Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that the Lord chose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite. 22 And Rehoboam did what was evil before the Lord, and he made him jealous with everything his fathers had done, and with their sins that they sinned.
23 And they built for themselves high places, and pillars, and sacred groves, on every high hill and under every leafy tree. 24 And there was a conspiracy in the land, and they did all the detestable things of the nations that the Lord removed from before the children of Israel.
Egypt Carries Off the Gold
25 And in the fifth year of the reign of Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, 26 and he took all the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house, and the gold spears that David had taken from the hand of the servants of Hadadezer king of Zobah and had brought into Jerusalem. He took it all — the gold shields.
27 And king Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place. And the leaders of the runners, the men who guarded the gateway of the king’s house, set them upon him. 28 And whenever the king went into the house of the Lord, the runners would carry them up, and set them back again in the guardroom of the runners.
29 And the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and everything he did — look, are they not written in the book of the daily record of the kings of Judah? 30 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days. 31 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and he was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Abijah his son reigned in his place.
