Genesis 36

1 And these are the generations of Esau — that is, Edom. 2 Esau took his wives from the daughters of the Canaanites: Adah, the daughter of Elon the Hittite; and Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the son of Zibeon the Hivite; 3 and Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, the sister of Nebaioth. 4 Adah bore Esau Eliphaz, and Basemath bore Reuel, 5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, and Jalam, and Korah. These are the sons of Esau, who were born to him in the land of Canaan. [a] 6 Then Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters, and everyone of his household, and all his possessions and all his cattle, and everything he had gotten and everything he had acquired in the land of Canaan — and Esau went away from the land of Canaan, away from the face of his brother Jacob. 7 For their goods had grown too great for them to live together, and the land where they were staying could not carry them, because of the abundance of their possessions. 8 So Esau settled in Mount Seir. Esau — he is Edom.

9 And these are the generations of Esau, the father of Edom, in Mount Seir. 10 These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Adah, Esau’s wife; and Reuel, the son of Basemath, Esau’s wife. 11 The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz. 12 And Timna was a concubine of Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These are the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife. 13 And these are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife. 14 And these are the sons of Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the son of Zibeon, Esau’s wife: she bore to Esau Jeush, and Jalam, and Korah. 15 These are the chiefs of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz, Esau’s firstborn: chief Teman, chief Omar, chief Zepho, chief Kenaz, 16 chief Korah, chief Gatam, chief Amalek. These are the chiefs of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Adah. 17 And these are the sons of Reuel, Esau’s son: chief Nahath, chief Zerah, chief Shammah, chief Mizzah. These are the chiefs of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife. 18 And these are the sons of Oholibamah, Esau’s wife: chief Jeush, chief Jalam, chief Korah. These are the chiefs of Oholibamah. [g] 19 These are the sons of Esau, and these are their chiefs. These are the sons of Edom.

20 And these are the sons of Seir the Horite, who lived in the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 21 and Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan. These are the chiefs of the Horite, the son of Seir, in the land of Edom. 22 The sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan’s sister was Timna. 23 And these are the sons of Shobal: Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, and Shepho, and Onam. 24 And these are the sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. This is the Anah who found Jamin in the wilderness, while he was pasturing the pack animals of his father Zibeon. [b] 25 And these are the children of Anah: Dishon — and Oholibamah was Anah’s daughter. 26 And these are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran. 27 And these are the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Jaakan, and Akan. [f] 28 And these are the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. 29 And these are the chiefs of the Horites: chief Lotan, chief Shobal, chief Zibeon, chief Anah, 30 chief Dishon, chief Ezer, chief Dishan. These are the chiefs of the Horites, in their domains in the land of Edom.

31 And these are the kings who reigned in Edom before any king reigned in Israel. 32 Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom, and the name of his city was Dinhabah. 33 And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah, from Bozrah, reigned in his place. 34 And Jobab died, and Husham, from the land of the Temanites, reigned in his place. 35 And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad — who cut down Midian in the plain of Moab — reigned in his place, and the name of his city was Getthaim. [c] 36 And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place. 37 Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth-by-the-river reigned in his place. 38 And Saul died, and Baal-hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his place. 39 And Baal-hanan the son of Achbor died, and Arad the son of Barad reigned in his place, and the name of his city was Phogor; and his wife’s name was Mehetabel, daughter of Matred, son of Mezahab. [d] 40 These are the names of the chiefs of Esau, by their tribes, by their places, in their countries and their nations: chief Timna, chief Alvah, chief Jetheth, 41 chief Oholibamah, chief Elah, chief Pinon, 42 chief Kenaz, chief Teman, chief Mibzar, 43 chief Magdiel, chief Zaphoim. These are the chiefs of Edom, in their settlements in the land of their possession. This is Esau, the father of Edom. [e]
