Joshua 16

From the Jordan to the Sea

1 And the borders of the sons of Joseph ran from the Jordan by Jericho on the east; and they will go up from Jericho into the hill country, the wilderness, to Bethel Luz, 2 and they will go out to Bethel and pass on to the borders of Chatarothi, 3 and cross over to the sea, to the borders of Aptalim, as far as the borders of Beth-horon the Lower; and the end of their borders will be at the sea. 4 And the sons of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh, received their inheritance.

The Border of Ephraim

5 And the borders of the sons of Ephraim were according to their clans; and the borders of their inheritance were, on the east, Ataroth and Erok, as far as Beth-horon the Upper, and Gezer. 6 And the borders will cross over to the sea, to Ikasmon north of Therma; they will go round to the east to Thenasa and Sellesa, and will pass on from the east to Janoah, 7 and to Macho and Ataroth and their villages; and they will come to Jericho and come out at the Jordan. 8 And from Tappuah the borders will go to the sea, to Chelkana; and the end of their borders will be at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of Ephraim according to their clans.

9 And the towns set apart for the sons of Ephraim were in the middle of the inheritance of the sons of Manasseh — all the towns and their villages. 10 And Ephraim did not destroy the Canaanite living in Gezer, and the Canaanite has lived in Ephraim to this day — until Pharaoh king of Egypt went up and took it and burned it with fire; and they ran through the Canaanites and the Perizzites and those living in Gezer; and Pharaoh gave it as a dowry to his daughter.
